The Anglo-Saxons and the Juts from Denmark
They came
to England in the 5th century (400-500 AD) They were the ones who
named the country “Engla land” They brought words like sheep, ox, earth and
field to the language, because they were farmers. They also brought in words
like you, is , the and that. They came to the country because they were conquers;
their goal was to take over land. They sail across the ocean from Denmark to
England, and entered many battles.
Scandinavian Settlement
Scandinavia
people came in the 9th century (800-900 AD) as Vikings. They brought
words like they and take to the English language. They made a city named York
that had streets and other stuff named “gate” The Vikings travelled across
every country and concurred them much like the Saxons.
1066 and after
In 1066
there was a battle between William the conquer and Harold Godwinson. The middle
English was the type of English they were speaking then, which is quite similar
to the English we see today. The number of word increased because they used
words from French and Latin.
In the late
medieval and early modern periods, the language started to change again. There
was many dialects but the London standard became dominant. The increasing use
of the printing press, spelling became more standardized.
Colonization and Globalization
Because
England colonized many countries around the world, the language became big in
many countries. When the language became the world language, some languages use
English words as loanword and many new varieties of English.
Very well done :)
