The Anglo-Saxons and the Juts from Denmark
They came to England in the 5th century (400-500 AD) They were the ones who named the country “Engla land” They brought words like sheep, ox, earth and field to the language, because they were farmers. They also brought in words like you, is , the and that. They came to the country because they were conquers; their goal was to take over land. They sail across the ocean from Denmark to England, and entered many battles.





Scandinavian Settlement
Scandinavia people came in the 9th century (800-900 AD) as Vikings. They brought words like they and take to the English language. They made a city named York that had streets and other stuff named “gate” The Vikings travelled across every country and concurred them much like the Saxons.







1066 and after
In 1066 there was a battle between William the conquer and Harold Godwinson. The middle English was the type of English they were speaking then, which is quite similar to the English we see today. The number of word increased because they used words from French and Latin.

 Standardization
In the late medieval and early modern periods, the language started to change again. There was many dialects but the London standard became dominant. The increasing use of the printing press, spelling became more standardized.

Colonization and Globalization
Because England colonized many countries around the world, the language became big in many countries. When the language became the world language, some languages use English words as loanword and many new varieties of English.
